About this series:

In "Relative Perceptions" (2015), Alia Lootah was inspired by a set of army archival images found in the Abu Dhabi Armed Forces Officers’ Club. 

The transfer of this subject from an archival image to a painting allows Lootah to resurrect her subjects by removing their remoteness in time. 

The portraits of the soldiers are almost ghostly, glazed over yet, so alive, with a seeming pulse imagined by the artist. Within the work everything else deadens and the expression comes alive.
