Collection: Raya Kassisieh

Raya Kassisieh (b. 1991) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice captures the dynamic relationship between her evolving interest in materials and a deep personal interrogation of form. With a background in textiles and patternmaking, she transforms her expertise with soft materials into sculptural works, incorporating mediums like steel and copper. Her work explores the politics of the body, often presenting nuanced, naturalistic depictions inspired by her Palestinian heritage and upbringing in Amman, Jordan.

Raya’s process of making is central to her practice, where the act itself becomes a hidden performance that breathes life into her creations. Drawing, painting, sculpting, welding, and draping, she uses the body as a tool for reimagination, articulating silent dialogues around autonomy, identity, and the renegotiation of being.

The personal, informed by her heritage and intimate connections, often through the lens of her grandmother’s photographic archive, acts as a powerful sieve through which she confronts collective and imagined memories, multitudes of grief, and social constructs.

Raya Kassisieh is of Jordanian Palestinian heritage and is currently based between London and Amman. She began her career after studying at the Pratt Institute (BFA, 2014) in New York. A decade later, she relocated to Dubai to deepen both her personal and professional inquiries. She graduated with an MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art (2024).
